Can redeveloping downtown Flint Michigan reduce crime?
According to the City of Flint Police Department, the crime in Flint Michigan is not what most people think it is. A person is statistically more likely to be the victim of aggravated assault or robbery in Burton or Flint Township than in downtown Flint. With new restaurants opening in downtown, events in the city are being expanded. For example, Blackstone?s and Soyla?s have just opened selling a variety of food fare. Wize Guys and 501 bar and grill will be opening soon. In addition, the city's historic Durant Hotel will be redeveloped; this is a $30-million investment that will turn the downtown landmark into a renovated apartment complex. This has to be good for the city right? However, that doesn?t deter the city from looking for sponsors for surveillance cameras that will be mounted around the city to keep a watch out for crooks. According to the Flint Journal, in exchange for cash, the city will plaster business names next to police logos on the pole-mounted camera boxes that sport a blue police light that flashes 24 hours a day. Police have been looking for a way to develop the program after being very happy with the lone surveillance camera keeping an eye on things at Cecil and Jewell drives on the city's north side. As much as Flint residents would love to see Flint make a go of it, many people still feel that if you want to deceive yourself and say no shootings or robberies ever happen downtown, then go ahead. But many people still wouldn?t let their families go downtown at night by themselves.
Therefore, many people are turning to security devices to monitor their personal belonging. They are turning to DVR?s, outside cameras, alarm systems, driveway alarms, and surveillance to feel secure. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 75% of all crime in the states is property crime. People are looking for ALL-IN-ONE security systems that are color recording systems. One that is portable enough for virtually any application. They want something that can be set to record only for motion activation or continuous movement.Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) technology are turning video surveillance equipment into the most valuable loss prevention, safety/security tool available today for both commercial and residential applications. The use of surveillance camera systems can alert you before threatening situations worsen, as well as provide you with an important record of events. According to the Flint Police Department monitoring your store or business can be invaluable, in identifying and apprehending thieves and vandals. The prevention or resolution of just one crime would be enough to pay for video surveillance system equipment many times over.
